Hind-Sight...

This week is indeed going to be a busy one! I finished one of my two major exams this week with my cell-and-molecular biology exam being on Friday (pray for me!). I'm beginning to realize, too late--naturally, that I probably should have majored in geology, instead of biology. This week was our last 'official' in-class lab (we're going on a field trip next lab, yay!) and while everyone else couldn't wait to get out, I really wanted it to keep going. There are several things that I have been noticing that should have tipped me off:
  • I love to dig and sort through rocks. It's not a great thing, but when I was little I would spend hours digging through the rock beds around our house looking for 'special' rocks. I now have quite an eye for fossils.
  • Not only am I probably the only student in my geo class that has a pretty good rock collection, but I also have a fossil collection, which includes a trilobite from the Devonian Period. :)
  • I seriously wanted to be a paleontologist... and I even inquired about it and was going to follow through with it here in Oshkosh by studying under our 'step-in' paleontologist Dr. Dilkes.
  • Aside from the fact that I'm beginning to lose my understanding of biology in general (and my interest in the field), geology just comes naturally to me. My test scores have been in the mid- to high-90's and I'm actually thinking logically about the questions instead of memorizing facts like I did in biology. This information just seems to make more sense and I can more easily apply it to 'real-world' situations. I'm still trying to figure out how biology will help me...
  • Looking back at my first biology class, I thought I liked it because I thought I was good at it because I got high scores on exams that I memorized facts for. Now I look back and wonder, did I really even ever learn anything from it?
Well, although it is too late to switch majors (and nor would I want to at this point!) I do have room and time to pick up a few more classes and possibly earn a minor in it. :)

In other news, Jim and I are scoping out a digital camera and were thinking about the Canon PowerShot A710 IS. I really like it but both Jim and I would like to look at it more and test it out before we invest in something like that. It will be our first joint purchase!!! :)

Well, that's all for now folks!
